$500,000 per-transaction limit
Our office has a $500,000 limit per individual transaction. This limit exists as a security measure to protect against fraud and ensure proper verification for large transfers.
For transactions over $500,000
If you need to transfer securities worth more than $500,000, first contact your transfer agency to confirm this is possible — some medallion forms cannot be split up.
If a split is possible, the process is:
- Provide a transfer form for shares valued at or below $500,000.
- We’ll process and complete this first transaction.
- Create a new transaction for the remaining shares.
- Provide an updated statement that reflects our last transfer, along with the transfer form for the next portion.
Each medallion stamp requires its own payment.
Please note: we do not stamp multiple forms at the same time that together equal over $500,000. Even if the transfer is split into multiple forms, stamping and mailing them at the same time acts as a single transfer. The split may need to span a longer time period depending on your transfer agency.
How this works in practice
Example: you need to transfer $750,000 in securities.
- Transaction 1: transfer $500,000 worth of shares.
- Transaction 2: transfer the remaining $250,000 worth of shares.
Each transaction requires its own medallion guarantee.
