Making an Account for Someone Else

Each Person Needs Their Own Account

If you’re helping someone process a medallion signature guarantee transaction, they need to create their own account in their name. This ensures proper identity verification and protects everyone involved.

How to Help Someone Else

You can assist them by:

  • Guiding them through the account creation process
  • Helping them gather required documents
  • Assisting with uploading or emailing documents
  • Communicating with our team on their behalf (with their permission and with them included on all correspondence such as being cc’ed on emails)

However, the account must be in their name, using their email address and their information for verification.

For Those Who Need Extra Help

If the person you’re helping has difficulty with technology:

  • Sit with them while they create the account
  • Use their email address (not yours)
  • Help them through the verification questions
  • Assist with document uploads

Special Situations

If they cannot complete verification themselves

For someone who is truly unable to complete the process (due to medical or cognitive issues), you may need:

  • Legal authority to act on their behalf (like conservatorship).
  • Court-appointed guardianship documents.

Note: we cannot accept Power of Attorney for medallion guarantees. See our Terms of Use for details.

Estate situations

If you’re handling an estate and are the legal executor, you create the account in your name as the executor/administrator, not in the deceased person’s name.
